QUAL: Qualifications:
1. Thorough knowledge of records management theory and practice, with demonstrated experience creating records schedules.
2. Knowledgeable in national and international industry standards such as ISO, AIIM, DOD, and Dublin Core
3. Thorough knowledge of archival practice, particularly as it relates to identifying and appraising archival records
4. Understanding of basic electronic formats and media and the principles of digital archives
5. Working knowledge of Massachusetts history, contemporary state administration, and relevant law and regulations at all jurisdictional levels, with ability to engage in related legal research
6. Masters degree in archival administration/records management, information science, history, or allied field
7. Minimum three years' work experience in an archives, research library, or similar institution
Required Skills:
1. Good computer skills, familiarity with MARC AMC format, and ability to design and/or work with a variety of databases
2. Good oral and written communications skills
3. Ability to work independently or as part of a team
4. Strong commitment to public service
5. Ability to perform physical work, including lifting and carrying forty pound boxes
6. Valid driver's license
DUTIES: The Massachusetts Archives, a division of the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, is accepting applications for the position of Records Management and Acquisitions Archivist. This is a permanent, full-time position and may include Saturday hours. The records management program in the Massachusetts Archives includes the development of policies and standards; outreach, training, and public relations activities; surveys, scheduling, and consultations with state agencies. The Records Management and Acquisitions Archivist will work with the State Archivist to help develop, plan, coordinate, implement, and document all aspects of the records management program for government records of all media in Massachusetts. The archivist works under the direction of the State Archivist, and in conjunction with the Supervisor of Public Records, the Records Conservation Board, and the State Records
Center. Duties and Responsibilities:
2. Maintains and updates the Massachusetts Statewide Records Retention Schedule.
3. Manages the appraisal, acquisition, and transfer of archival records to the Massachusetts Archives.
4. Coordinates the appraisal and transfer of records to the State Records Center.
5. Creates electronic systems information management plans.
6. Advises government agencies on records management issues such as filing design, records retention, records destruction, and reorganization.
7. Helps plan and develop policies and procedures for electronic records, storage of hardcopy records, and agency compliance.
